- Secondary vocational education (mbo)

Four levels of education
The senior secondary vocational programme has four levels of education:

  • assistant training
  • basic vocational training
  • (trade) professional training
  • middle-management or specialist training

Two learning routes
Each level may be accessed via two learning routes as specified below. The main difference between these routes is the amount of time a student spends on practical occupational training at the work placement company.

  • bol = the college-based learning route: day education with placements. A student-trainee will receive a remuneration during the period of placement.
  • bbl = the training-based learning route: learn while you work: 4 days a week at the work placement company, 1 day theoretical education. An apprentice-employee receives wages and a labour contract.
